The Indian cricket team is predominantly lauded for its strong batting performances. In the bargain, we often forget to acknowledge the contribution of our bowlers.
India has produced some great individual bowlers over the years. But we’ve been in search of a steady bowling pair for sometime now – two tactful bowlers that can spear the opening attack, and hold their nerves in the death overs – bowlers who can adapt consistently well and pick up wickets at crucial junctures.
Well, we seem to have found our ideal fit in Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both pacers played their part in consigning Sri Lanka to their first-ever ODI and home-series whitewash. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named Man of the Match in the fifth and final ODI, Jasprit Bumrah took home Man of the Series.
Bhuvneshwar also marked his maiden ODI five-wicket haul in the said series. Bumrah, on the other hand, took a total of 15 wickets and moved up an incredible 27 spots to clinch fourth position in the ICC bowler rankings. Above him are Australia’s Mitchell Starc, South Arica’s Imran Tahir and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who took the top spot.
Seldom do we see two Indian bowlers accepting all the accolades in a single series. As such, it was a delight to watch. And we hope that they continue to find their stride!
